Skin Cancer CheckWe provide comprehensive skin cancer service which includes complete skin checks, screening, monitoring and treatment of any spots or moles requiring further attention. A standard skin check takes approximately 15-20 minutes, depending on the number and complexity of spots or moles requiring assessment for each patient. Time, patience and understanding are required during any thorough, complete skin check. Our detailed skin check will provide you with a peace of mind and reassurance that you will leave the clinic with the "all clear" knowing that no suspicious lesions are missed. It is important and very helpful that you highlight any new or changing spots of concern on any part of your body, which will be expertly assessed along with all of your other spots on your face, scalp, neck, torso front and back, arms and legs. | How it worksFor the skin cancer examination, you will be asked to undress, removing all clothing except for underwear (women may leave their bra on). A cover gown or sheet will be provided. Please remember to remove all makeup, nail polish, and fake tans prior to your skin check to ensure that no lesions are hidden and all areas requiring assessment are clearly visible. Your skin will be examined from 'top to toe' using a handheld dermatoscopic magnifying device to aid in assessing your moles. Any spots that require monitoring or removal will be photographed under high magnification with high-end equipment. These images can be stored in your electronic file for future reference. Photographic dermoscopy is the gold standard in skin cancer care, allowing for the imaging, storage, and retrieval of suspicious or changing moles or skin lesions. Research has shown that this method aids in the early detection and elimination of skin cancer.

We provide surgical procedures within the clinic which are usually booked as a day procedure and carried out under local anaesthetic. Both simple procedures like a skin biopsy and more complex surgical excisions of skin cancers including melanoma are provided in the clinic. It is of utmost importance that patients feel completely comfortable and pain free during the procedure, that is why the skin is tested to make sure there is no pain during the procedure. | You are encouraged to ask any questions until you feel comfortable and confident prior to your procedure. Procedures will be charged at a private fee depending upon which procedure is required. A reduced fee or Concession Rate is available for children aged 15yr and under and holders of a valid Government Concession Card or DVA Gold card. |
Not all skin cancers require surgical excisions and some, such as superficial Basal cell carcinomas and Bowens, can be treated with topical treatment such freezing of the lesion with liquid nitrogen or treatment with a cream or photodynamic therapy.
If a lesion requires treatment with liquid nitrogen, then the doctor will likely provide it on the day of skin check; there is no extra charge for this. For other topical treatment, the doctor will discuss options and provide a prescription including explanation of treatment duration and complications.
